Our message comes from a deep and profound love of classic works, and a belief that reexamining and questioning the assumptions keeps art and theater alive. The Rude Mechanicals are rebels. We reject the mold because we have the freedom to make more interesting, less commercial choices. As a non-profit theater company, we can make theater for pure love of the craft.

In residence at the Greenbelt Arts Center

The Rude Mechanicals are a resident theater company at the Greenbelt Arts Center, and our favorite performance venue became our permanent home.

Past productions

For over 20 years, the Rude Mechanicals have produced nearly every single play by William Shakespeare, as well as classic works from the ancient Greeks through the 20th century. We’ve performed a goth Romeo and Juliet, a disco Merry Wives of Windsor, and King John in the style of Monty Python, as well as works by Aristophanes, Wilde, and Chekhov.
